Post-Olympic Progress

I just have a quick moment to post before I get back to work. I haven't finished the Christening Gown yet, but I made substantial progress while watching the olympics. Here is the pic as it stands now.

Four Things

Susan tagged me last week and I’ve finally gotten around to filling it out. I’m not tagging anyone since this one has been around for awhile now!

I went to a GTG at Terri’s this weekend where I got to see some people I haven’t seen in a few years and even got to meet a couple new people. I’ll probably post more about that later. I had been sick and clearly overexerted myself on Saturday. I also tweaked my lower back somehow, though it’s pretty much better now. I slept most of the day yesterday and did manage to get some cutting and weaving done in the Christening Gown. I seem to be on a roll with it; it will likely not be done by the time the Olympics are over, but I have a good chance of finishing it before the baby shower. Thanks for all the nice comments on it, by the way. Okay, here is the meme:

A Quick Pic

I know that Susan has tagged me and I'll try to do that soon. :) This is just a quick post with a picture of the Christening Gown as it stands now. I started it January 17th. Maya's baby shower is March 18th (she's actually due towards the end of May) and I'd like to finish it by the shower but I don't know if it will happen.

A Week Later

I didn’t post last week because I was in a pretty bad mood and was never really motivated. I also wasn’t ready to post anything after the entry about Laura. There was something going on at work that was really upsetting to me, but I’m distracted with other things now, which is another reason why I haven’t written. It has been busy both at work and at home and I’ve had little spare time.

We have been watching the Olympics, of course. It is pretty spectacular with the hi-def TV and all. Well, when the signal isn’t screwed up like it was on Saturday. I’ve been working on the Christening Gown non-stop and will post the pre-Olympics pic that I took soon. I have another day or two worth of eyelets and then I finally get to move on to the cutting/weaving part. I started it January 17th and am trying to finish by March 18th for the baby shower, but it is admittedly a stretch.

Last night we decided, after our non-Valentine’s Day dinner at Outback, to go to Jackson Hole after all. We changed the dates slightly and it ended up being $422 per person for airfare and four nights at the Snow King. We leave March 28th so I have until then to really get in shape. I’d like to ski multiple days this trip and finally move on to intermediate level skiing. I think I’m going to take a full day class that focuses on transitioning from green to blue runs. I won’t improve if I don’t push myself, as I’ve found in other contexts. Now I have to head down to REI soon and get suitable apparel for myself and Luke.

The weather here has been hot and dry (mid-80’s the past few days) and I feel like crap. I can’t tell if it is allergies from the Santa Ana winds, irritation from the lack of humidity, or if I am indeed coming down with something. I was suspicious today that I may actually be sick because I am so damn tired, but that may be due to the fact that I’ve been staying up too late watching the Olympics.

Well, that’s how things are here. Having the trip to look forward to has raised my spirits. Being outside all day Saturday (Legoland) was good also. My house is a wreck though since it was thoroughly neglected this past weekend. Monday is a holiday so maybe I can get caught up then.

Laura

As most everyone in the stitching community knows by now (or has even blogged about by now) Laura passed away on Friday. She and I had only gotten to know each other these last few months. I read her blog every day, and we had started commenting back and forth. I made the last comment at her last post and there is so much more I would have said if I'd known it was the last one I would ever make.

She was about my age and we had several things in common. I grieve her passing far more than I ever could have known I would. I had always hoped to meet her "in real life" one of these days since I have family in the Seattle area. I can't believe it will never happen now.

I have thought so many times about what to say and there aren't words enough to convey how I really feel. My heart goes out to her husband, Neil, as well as my prayers.

I have re-typed this post so many times and can't seem to get it right. I know that you all know what I mean.
